Anesthesia Flashcards
Supraperiosteal Injection
[local] injections near apices of teeth to anesthetizes 1-2 teeth and tissue
Nerve Block
injection deposited near nerve trunk to anesthetizes large area
Local Anesthesia: Effectiveness
maxilla more successful - cortical bone is less dense and has less variable anatomy
PSA Block
1st (not MB), 2nd, 3rd molars + overlying buccal tissue *injected @ mucobuccal fold above apex of 2nd molar, distal to zygomatic process
PSA Block: Incorrect Angulation
penetration of pterygoid plexus of veins - causing hematoma
MSA Block
1st, 2nd premolars + MB 1st molar + overlying buccal tissue *injected mucobuccal fold @ apex max. 2nd premolar
ASA Block
canine, incisors + overlying facial tissue/lips *mucobuccal fold @ apex of max canine
ASA + MSA
can be used together INSTEAD of IO block!
IO Block
premolars, canines, incisors + lips *injection @ upper rim of infraorbital foreman, rarely used!
Greater Palatine Block
palatal tissue of premolars and molars *injected anterior to depression created by palatine foreman
Pressure Anesthesia
pressure nearby to blanch and make injection more tolerable
Nasopalatine Block
palatal tissues from left - right canine *injected at palatal tissue lateral to incisive papilla
Inferior Alveolar Block
[mandibular block] ALL mandibular teeth in quad EXCEPT buccal soft tissue of molars + lingual nerve * injected in pterygomandibular space
Long Buccal
buccal periodontium of mandibular molars *injected at buccal tissue distal to most mand molar [anterior border of ramus]
Mental/Incisive Block
mand. premolars, canines, incisors + face/lip anterior to mental foreman *
