Anesthesia Flashcards
Tranquilizers
drugs that calm an anxious patient by reducing anxiety but does not necessarily reduce awareness
Sedatives
drugs that reduce excitement or irritabilty by causing sleepiness and decreased mental activity
What are the two types of rebreathing systems?
closed system and semiclosed system
Close System
total rebreathing of expired gases; fresh gas flow rate meets and does not exceed the patients metabolic O2 consumption (5-10mg/kg)
Semiclosed System
partial rebreathing of expired gases
Nonrebreathing System
all expired gas goes to the scavenging system
Universal F-Circuit
circle syste
What are the two types of breathing systems?
Universal F-Circuit and Bain System
What is the objective of monitoring the central nervous system?
objective is to observe the patients reflex and activity and to monitor the degree of CNS depression
Ventromedial Eye Position
normal during stage 3, plane 2 of anesthesia
Central Eye Position
patient is too light or too deep
What are you looking for when monitoring CNS?
eye position, palpebral reflex, corneal reflex, pupil size, pedal reflex, jaw tone
What is the objective of monitoring the cardiovascular system?
objective is to measure the heart rate and blood pressure to ensureadequate blood flow
What are you looking for when monitoring the cardiovascular system?
heart rate, pulse rate, rhythm, blood pressure, CRT
