Alternative Imaging Flashcards
Echogenicity
describes the grey scale that is seen
Hyperechoic
structure is lighter than the surrounding tissue/organ
Hypoechoic
image is darker than the surrounding tissue
Anechoic
image is black (i.e. fluid)
Isoechoic
image is the same echogenicity as compared to another organ
Near Field
refers to the portion of the image closest to the probe
Far Field
portion of the image farthest from the probe
Sagittal Imaging Planes
probe is oriented from cranial to caudal
Transverse Imaging Plane
probe is oriented from left to right
Acoustic Impedance
ability of tissue to resist or impede the transmission of sound depending on the density and elasticity of tissue
Resolution
ability to separately identify small structures on the ultrasound image or detail of the image
Fluoroscopy
provide dynamic real-time imaging of anatomical structures; used mainly to examine digestive system
Nuclear Scintigraphy
radioisotopes or small amount of radioactive material or radionuclide is given IV, transcolonically, or aerosol
What is the most common radionuclide used?
Technetium-99m
