Anatomy of the heart Flashcards
Mediastinum
Area of the thoracic
Are the atriums at the top or bottom of the heart?
Top
Where are the atrioventricular valves?
separate atria and ventricles
what are the names of the atrioventricular valves?
Tricuspid - R
Mitral - L
what is the purpose of pulmonary and aortic valves
control blood flow out of the heart
Myocardium
Cardiac muscles
What is the wall of the heart made up of?
Myocardium
Pericardium
endocardium
what is Endocardium made up of and what is the function?
Made up of endothelial cells that ensure the walls of the heart are smooth to encourage blood flow and prevent thrombi
Pericardium: where is it found and what is its function
It is one of the layers of the heart wall, and its purpose is for resistance against pressure. It is made up of two layers. The outer layer attaches heart to the diaphragm and sternum. Between the layers is fluid for lubrication
How does de-oxygenated blood come into the heart?
into the R Atrium via the vena cava and coronary sinus
Flow of blood around the heart
- R atrium
- R ventricle via tricuspid valve
- Pulmonary valve opens, blood enters pulmonary artery.
- Blood is oxygenated by the lungs
- Blood travels down pulmonary vien to the left atrium
- passes mitral valve to the L ventricle
- arotic valves open and blood flows into the aorta
- blood pumps round body
