Anatomy - Lower Limb Nerves And Lesions Flashcards
Femoral nerve muscles supplies
- SPI on the QUADS
- Sartorius
- Pectineus
- Iliacus
- Quadriceps
Cutaneous supply of femoral nerve
- anterior thigh
- medial thigh
- medial leg and foot
Femoral nerve lesion
- weak knee extension
- sensory loss
Obturator nerve muscle supplied
- AGOx
- Adductors
- Gracilis
- Obturator externus
Obturator nerve cutaneous supply
- skin of medial thigh
Obturator nerve lesion
- rare
- weak hip adduction
- often no loss of cutaneous sensation due to overlap by adjacent nerves
Superior gluteal nerve muscle supplied
- Gluteus medius
- Gluteus minimus
- Tensor fascia latae
Superior gluteal nerve cutaneous supply
- none
Superior gluteal nerve lesion
- weak hip abduction and medial rotation
Inferior gluteal nerve muscle supplied
- Gluteus maximus
Inferior gluteal nerve curtaneous supply
- none
- inferior gluteal nerve lesion
- weak hip extension and lateral rotation
Tibial nerve muscle supplied
- SM, ST, BF ling head, estensor part of adductor magnus
- all posterior leg muslce
- all intrinsic foot muscle on plantar aspect
Tibial nerve cutaneous supply
- skin of heel and plantar surface of foot
Tibial nerve lesion
- impaired ankle plantarflexion and toe flexion
- loss of sensation in cutaneous distribution
Common fibular nerve muscle supplied
- Superficial fibular nerve: FL, FB
- deep fibular nerve: TA, eHL, EDL
Common fibular nerve cutaneous supply
- anterolateral leg
- dorsum of foot
Common fibular nerve injury
- lateal to neck of fibular and knee surgery near buceps femoris tendon
- Sciatic nerve muscle supplied
- hamstring
- adductor magnus - hamstring part
- Leg and foot - all muscles via tibial and common fibular branch
- cutaneous supply of sciatic nerve
- skin of leg and foot except medial leg/foot which is supplied by saphenous branch of femoral nerve

Nerves in danger with surgery
- surgery involving the great saphenous vein may damage the saphenous nerve
- surgery involving the small saphenous vein may damage the sural nerve
