Anatomy II Lab 1,3,4 Flashcards
What is blood?
A type of connective tissue
What is blood?
A type of connective tissue
What is blood composed of?
formed elemets and fluid matrix
Fibers participate in what?T
clotting ot coagulation of blood to help to stop bleeding
The matrix of the blood
plasma
What is plasma composed of?
water, proteins, glucose, lipids, armino acids, vitamins, minerals, hormones, gases, and metabolic waste prodcuts
What helps to maintain the body’s homeostasis?
plasma and formed elements
The types of formed elements
erythrocytes
leukocytes
thrombocytes
What are erythrocytes?
red blood cells
What are leukocytes?
white blood cells
What are thrombocytes?
platelets
Hematopoiesis
blood cell formation
Function of Erythrocytes
carry oxygen and carbon dioxide
Thrombocytes are formed from what?
megakaryocytes
Function of thrombocytes
formation of platelet plugs and in the process of blood clotting at the site of an injury
What are the groups of leukocytes?
granulocytes and agranulocytes
What are granulocytes?
have distinct granules in the cytoplasm
What are agranulocytes?
lack distinct granules in the cytoplasm
Function of leukocytes
phagocytosis
Types of white blood cells
neutrophils, esinophils, basophils, lymphocytes, monocytes
Neutrophils’ function
squeeze through capillary walls by amoeboid motion and go to the site of infection where they phagocytize bacteria
Esinophil’s function
destroy parasitic worms
phagocytize the antigen antibody complexes involved in generating an allergic reaciton, activation the inflammation of an allergy attack
Basophil’s function
makes blood vascular system more leaky and anti clotting substance
What is blood composed of?
formed elemets and fluid matrix
