Anatomy factoids Flashcards
What are the parts of the corpus callosum?
rostrum (inferiorily), genu (rostrally), body, splenium (caudally)
What are parts of the lateral ventricle?
anterior horn, posterior horn, inferior horn (aka temporal horn)
body and atrium (posterior)
Where is the atrium of the lateral ventricle?
posterior, where the temporal and posterior horns meet
Where does the tail of the caudate nucleus go? What kind of a structure is the caudate nucleus?
C-shaped structure. Tail follows the wall of the lateral ventricel into the temporal lobe
What structures are connected by the stria terminalis?
amygdala and hypothalamus
Where does the fimbria of the fornix attach?
hippocampus
what is the crus of the fornix?
the part that goes into the temporal lobe
What is the column of the fornix? What do they do?
dive inferiorily into the hypothalamus
connect mammillary bodies and the hippocampus
Where is the pulvinar?
caudally projecting part of the posterior thalamic nuclei
What structures are near the pineal body?
sits between the superior colliculi
What does the anteriori commissure do?
connects olfactory and temporal lobe structures
What is the tectum?
superior and inferior colliculi + periaqueductal gray (surrounds the cerebral aqueduct)
What are the landmarks for the hypothalamus?
right above the optic chiasm (above = dorsal) and ventral to the very end of the columns of the fornix
below the thalamus
extends from optic chiasm to causal border of the mammillary bodies
Describe the relationship between the hippocampus and the amygdala (anatomical)
amigdala is anterior (rostral) to hippocamppus
What are the walls of the anterior horn of ventricle?
septum pellucidum (medial), genu of corpus collosum is the anterior wall; thalamus is the lateral wall; roof is the centrum semiovale;
