Anatomy Chapter 1 Intro Flashcards
What is the difference between anatomy and physiology?
Anatomy is the study of the structure of the body, physiology is the study of the functions of the body organisms
What are the 2 integrated versions of study?
Anatomy and physiology
Name the four different fields of anatomy
Gross anatomy, microscopic anatomy, fields with both macro and microscopic anatomy, and radiographic anatomy
What is gross anatomy?
It can be seen with the naked eye
Name the three subcategories of gross anatomy
Regional anatomy, systemic anatomy (11), surface anatomy
Name the two subcategories of microscopic anatomy
Cytology (study of individual cells) & histology (study of tissues) (4 tissue types)
What are the two subcategories for fields with both macro and micro anatomy?
Developmental anatomy (changes of body from conception to maturity), and comparative anatomy (study of anatomical similarities and differences between species)
What is radio graphic anatomy?
Study of anatomical structures through special visualization tools (X-rays, CT, NMR, MRI, etc)
Put these structural levels of organization in order from smallest to largest:
Organ Level, Cellular Level, Organism Level, Molecular (Chemical) Level, Tissue Level, Organ System Level
Molecular ➡Cellular➡Tissue➡Organ➡Organ (System)➡Organism
All living organisms share what properties/processes? (5)
Responsiveness, growth and differentiation, reproduction, movement, & metabolism and excretion
Name the 11 organ systems
Integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, lymphoid, respiratory, digestive, urinary, reproductive
