Anatomy - Brain Flashcards
Name the 12 cranial nerves.
Identify them on onenote
State whether they are motor, sensory or both
I - olfactory - sensory II - optic - sensory III - occulomotor - motor IV - trochelar - motor V - trigmenlar - both VI - abducens - motor VII - facial - both VIII - vestibulocochlear - sensory IX - glossopharyneal - both X - vagus - both XI - spinal accessory - motor XII - hypoglossal - motor
Look at onenote for mnemonics and positions - DO IT
What nerve crosses over in the optic chiasma?
CN II - optic nerve
There are three fossa in the skull. Name them and state what lobe of the brain sits in each
Anterior cranial fossa - frontal lobe
Middle cranial fossa - temporal lobes
Posterior cranial fossa - cerebellum (with occipital lobe above)
Name the 3 branches of the trigeminal nerve (V) nerve and state where they exit the cranium
(remember the mnemonic)
CNV1 = ophthalmic CNV2 = maxillary CNV3 = mandibular
Standing Room Only
V1 = superior orbital fissure
V2 = foramen rotundum
V3 = foramen ovale
Describe the sensory and motor innervation of the facial nerve
Sensory - small part of external ear
Motor - facial expression + stylohyoid
Damage to the facial nerve can cause a wide variety of symptoms because it innervates many muscles. It can cause the face to hold strange positions, if this occurs and no known cause can be found. What is the name of it?
Bell’s palsy
