Anatomy Flashcards
Where does the digastric muscle originate and insert?
somewhere?
What does the nerve to the mylohyoid innervate?
mylohyoid and anterior belly of the digastric muscles
The nerve to the mylohyoid is a branch of which CN, and where does it branch/run?
CN V3/inferior alveolar nerve; branches just before CN5 enters the mandible and runs in the mylohyoid groove
What are the 4 intrinsic muscles of the tongue?
superior longitudinal, inferior longitudinal, verticalis, transversus
What are the 4 extrinsic muscles of the tongue?
genioglossus, hyoglossus, styloglossus, palatoglossus
The sublingual gland excretes what into where?
saliva into the sublingual ducts to sublingual caruncle
The lingual artery runs deep to what muscle(s)?
digastric and hyoglossus
What are the borders of the paralingual space and why is it significant?
mylohyoid and hyoglossus; important for infection
What travels within the paralingual space?
submandibular duct, lingual nerve
What is the chorda tympani?
nerve that carries taste (SA) from anterior 2/3 of tongue to CN7 as well as GVE from CN7 to submandibular ganglia, then to submandibular and sublingual gland
What are the names of the superior, middle, and inferior choncha bones of the nasal cavity?
ethmoid = superior & middle concha; inferior turbinate = inferior concha
What are the spaces between the concha bones called?
meatus
What are the 4 meatuses?
superior meatus
middle meatus
inferior meatus
common meatus
What is the sphenopalatine foramen?
connection between the nasal cavity and the sphenoid sinus
Where is the incisive canal?
midline and anterior on the floor of the nasal cavity
