anatomy Flashcards
what vertebral bodies do the right + left kidney lie at?
right kidney slightly inferior due to kidney
left = T12-L2 right = L1-L3
which ribs are posteriorly related to the kidneys?
ribs 11 + 12
if there were abnormal fluid in the peritoneal cavity where is it most likely to gather? what is this areas relation to the kidney?
hepatorenal recess
right kindey sits immediately posterior to recess
which are more anterior - renal arteries or renal veins?
renal veins are anterior to renal arteries
what are the 3 sites of ureteric constriction?
- pelviuretic junction
- ureter crossing anterior aspect of common iliac artery
- ureteric orifice (floor of bladder)
motor control of the urethral sphincter
internal sphincter = sympathetic/parasympathetic
external + levator ani = somatic motor
where do sympathetic nerve fibres leave the spinal cord?
T1-L2 only
how do sympathetic nerve fibres get from CNS to kidneys ureter + bladder?
leave T10 + L2 -> sympathetic chain -> abdominopelvic splanchnic nerves -> abdo sympathetic ganglia (around aorta) -> hitch a ride with arteries
where do parasympathetic nerve fibres leave the CNS?
CN III, VII, IX, X
and sacral spinal nerves
how are parasympathetic nerves fibres carried differently for the kidneys and ureter vs the bladder?
PARAsympathetic
kidneys+ureter = within vagus nerve
bladder = pelvis splanchic nerves
where do pelvic splanchic nerves leave spinal cord?
S2, S3, S4
what part of the renal sysrem do somatic fibres go to?
those within the perineum ONLY
-> EG URETHRA + ITS SPHINCTER
pain from kidneys
dull, achy type pain in loin (posterior flank ish)
pain from ureters
if obstruction, loin to groin pain
pain from bladder
usually dull, achy suprapubic pain
