anatomy 101 Flashcards
What are the twelve cranial nerves?
I: Olfactory II: Optic III: Oculomotor IV: Trochlear V: Trigeminal VI: Abducens VII: Facial VIII: Vestibulococholear IX: Glossopharyngeal X: Vagus XI: Accesory XII: Hypoglossal
What is the function of the olfactory?
Sense of smell (I)
What is the function of the optic?
Vision (acuity), visual fields and pupillary light reflex (afferent limb) (II)
What is the function of the oculomotor?
eyelid elevation, eye movement (elevation, abduction, depression in abduction) and pupillary light relax (efferent limb) (III)
What is the function of the trochlear?
eye movements (intorsion, depression in adduction)
What is the function of the trigeminal?
Motor to muscles of mastication and sensations rom face, sinuses, teeth etc (V)
What is the function of the abducens?
Eye movement - abduction (VI)
What is the function of the facial?
Motor to muscles of facial expression, sensory taste (anterior 2/3/ of tongue) and sensory to the external auditory meatus and nasopharynx (VII)
What is the function of the Vestibulococholear?
Sense of hearing and sense of balance (VIII)
What is the function of the Glossopharyngeal?
Motor to the stylopharyngess muscle sensory post (posterior 2/3 and general sensation forms eh tongue) and mucosa of the nasopharynx and middle ear (IX)
What is the function of the vagus?
Motor to the vial muscles: sensory from the pharynx, larynx and lateral aspect of the face; parasympathetic innervation to the gastrointestinal tract, heart and lungs (X)
What is the function of the accessory?
Motor to sternocleidomastoid and trapezius (XI)
What is the function of the hypoglossal?
Motor to tongue muscle (XII)
What from anterior to posterior are the foramina?
- Criboform plate of ethnoid
- Optic canal
- Superior orbital fissure
- Foramen rotundum
- Foramen ovale
- Foramen lacerum
- Foramen spinosum
- Cartoid canal
- Intern acoustic meatus
- Jugular foramen
- Hypoglossal canal
- Foramen magnum
What goes through the criboform plate of ethnoid plate?
Olfactory nerve fibres
