Anatmony And Physiology Part 2 Flashcards
What are the 2 functions of the cardiovascular system
Transporting things around the body through the bloodstream like oxygen carbon dioxide and nutrients
Controlling the Temperature of you by moving more blood nearer the skin to cool you more quickly
What is the cardiovascular system made up of
Heart
Blood
Blood vessels
What type of system is the cardiovascular system
Double circulatory system
Made up of the pulmonary circuit
And the systemic circuit
Which circuit connects to the lungs
Pulmonary circuit
Which circuit connects to most the bod
Systemic circuit
Pulmonary circuit system
Deoxgenated blood enters the right ventricle through the tricuspid valve
The right ventricle contracts pushing blood through right semi lunar valve into the pulmonary artery which carries the blood to the lungs to be oxygenated
Oxygenated blood from the lungs enters the left atrium through the pulmonary veins
Pulmonary circuit system
Deoxgenated blood enters the right ventricle through the tricuspid valve
Systemic circuit system
Oxygenated blood enters the left ventricle through the bicuspid valve
The left ventricle contracts pushing the blood through the left semi lunar valve into the aorta which carries the oxygenated blood to the rest of the body including the muscles.
When the muscles have used the oxygen in the blood it becomes deoxygenated. It then enters the right atrium through the vena cava vein
What do arteries do
Carry blood away from the heart. It’s always oxygenated blood exept for pulmonary artery
What do veins do
Carry blood towards the heart. Only carries deoxgenated blood exept for pulmonary veins.
What do capillaries do
Carry blood through the body to exchange gases and nutrients with the body’s tissues.
Cardiac output =
Heart rate × stroke volume
What is stroke volume
The amount of blood each ventricle pumps with each contraction
What is your cardiac output
The volume of blood pumped by a ventrical per minute
