An intro to homeostasis and how to describe the human body Flashcards
what is homeostasis
The ability of a living thing to maintain relatively constant internal conditions in spite of a changing external environment
What do homeostatic feedback mechanisms do
They reduce the impact of external environmental changes
What is a receptor
Monitors the internal environment and detects the problem
What is a control centre
Receives information from the receptor it is the set point and sometimes the same as the effector
What is an effector
It receives information from the control center and find the solution for the problem, the effector brings the body back to homeostasis
What is a negative feedback
This is what makes the original stimulus less intense then from the start
What is a positive feedback
This is what makes the original stimulus more intense than from the start
