Harding rejected the former ideas of activism (Teddy Roosevelt) and idealism (Woodrow Wilson). Voters like his friendliness, reputation, and most importantly his drive toward “normalcy.” Coolidge was very laid back /reserved (nickname: “silent Cal”), and had obvious integrity and simple values.

James Cox believed that President Woodrow Wilson’s ways of going about the recently-ended WWI saved “civilization,” and accused the GOP of just ignoring this. As for Roosevelt, people just saw him as immature because of his age at the time, 38 years old.

They saw Harding and Coolidge as pretty normal guys with normal benefits and positive desires for the United States, so that’s where they put their votes.

Harding passed away in 1923, vice president Calvin Coolidge took office. He pledges his earnest support regarding the economics; finance and taxation. When he became president, he shrank debt, but cause overproduction of goods with his tax cuts. He also signed the Immigration act of 1924, limiting the number of Immigrants allowed into the United States. Although, it was pretty chill for four years. He was known for “effectively doing nothing,” which is what the country needed at the time.

At this point, America had just gone through war, and they just wanted a president who they knew wasn’t super radical. Coolidge had already handled being a substitute president, and he had goood intentions. He was chill and that’s what American citizens wanted.
