Managing allergy (4)
Avoidance- especialy for food allergy
Antihistamines- first gen has brain effect (drowsiness and reduced nausea) like diphenhydramine, second gen has no brain effect like loratadine, desloratadine, cetirizine, and fexterfadine.
Decongestants- like pseudophedrine. Can also take steroid decongestants that are glucocortid agonists (they suppress inflammation)
Epi pen- use to prolong anaphylexis, very expensive
Asthma and Allergy.
50% of allergies progress to asthma.
Treat with adrenaline agonists like salbutamol. Better to use an inhaler like flovent because too much can cause heart attack.
Can also treat with steroid decongestants.
Can also treat with leukotrienne antagonists.
