7
Q

what are the different types of sigma bonding?

A

s + s = sigma bond between s orbitals
s + p = sigma bond between end of p orbital and s orbital
p + p = sigma bond between p orbital

11
Q

why are alkenes much more reactive?

A

as they have pie bonds that are strained and much weaker so are very prone to breaking
they have double bonds which mean there is an electron-rich region of the molecules that is susceptible to attack by things that are attracted to negatively charged (electrophile)

16
Q

what theory is used for unsymmetrical alkenes?

A

Markovnikov addition

17
Q

what is Markovnikov addition?

A

when hydrogen halide (HX) adds across a double bond hydrogen will bond to the carbon that already has the most hydrogen atoms bonded directly to it.

18
Q

in bonded atoms what is the first bond always?

A

sigma bond any additional are always pie bonds
