Where did al-Qaida come from
A
Afghanistan,
Osama bin Laden coordinated the activities of Islamists fighting the communists and established training camps and bases

What was the Afghanistan war with communists
A
- In 1978 Afghan communists took control of the government and had help from the Soviet Union
- A huge rebellion that lasted 10 years
- 1989 the Soviets left and the war had given rise to many Islamic organisations which now felt empowered as they defeated the Soviets

Western involvement in the Afghanistan war
A
- The Western powers helped and the USA provided lots of weapons including stinger missiles
- The military forces of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the USA and Britain trained and armed recruits

Muslim reaction to 9/11
A
- Most Muslims were shocked by it
- Osama bin Laden and followed said that Muslims were under attack (countries like Arabia, Iraq and Palestine)
- He said the USA supported corrupt + oppressive governments like the one in Saudi Arabia
