Aircraft Systems - Block 2 Flashcards
Why does the student need to learn about aircraft systems ? (5)
Which is the least important?
Which is the most important?
ACS demands they have basic knowledge of all systems currently
i) 61.105 / 61.107 * Least important reason
Need to know how something works so they can identify and perhaps remedy
Have to have knowledge on how things will effect them based on nature of the malfunction
Prevent misuse of systems
A/C operational efficiency (to know how to use efficiently have to know how it works) * most important
What systems should be taught & when to your student?
For Solo
For Certification
SOLO
- Based on the airplane
- Everything you need to know to fly that type of airplane in normal and abnormal situations
Certification
- Everything needed to fly that category/class aircraft in normal and abnormal situations
- So controllable pitch props, retractable landing gear, etc.
Systems on the ACS
Why do they need to know all of these things?
a) Primary flight controls and Trim
b) Flaps, leading edge devices, and spoilers
c) Landing Gear
d) Anti-Ice / De-ice
e) Power plant and propeller (basic engine knowledge)
f) Fuel, oil, hydraulic
g) Electrical system
h) Avionics
i) Environmental
j) Pitot-static, vacuum/pressure and associated flight instruments
NEED to know because nothing says they can’t fly something with capabilities outside of what they’re currently flying. Therefore, they need to have as much of a round education as possible.
Errors & Problems associated with learning aircraft systems? (4)
a) Mishandling a system failure
b) Troubleshooting system failures/malfunctions
c) Not observing the failure has occurred
d) Terminology confusion or mixups
How to teach systems:
(3)
simple to complex
Describe components of the system
Normal operation (how do they all collectively work and what limitations for normal do they have) Abnormal operation ( what happens when things start to break or read differently)
Three highest deficient systems areas
- Pitot-Static/Vacuum System
- Electrical System
- Fuel Oil Hydraulic
