Aims and hypotheses Flashcards
research aim
references the intentions or purpose of the study
research question
similar to an aim but written as a question
hypothesis
testable statement that predicts what the study will find - always includes an IV and DV which are fully operationalized. All experiments have two hypotheses, alternative and null
experimental/alternative/research hypothesis
predicts some sort of difference between the variables, either directional (one tailed) and predict direction the results will go in or (non directional) predicting a difference but not which direction
null hypothesis
a statement that predicts there will be no difference in the results and that any difference recorded will be due to chance
