what is direct aggression?
-involves physical contact to cause harm
-normally outside the rules of the sport
-players do it in the hope they do not get caught
what is indirect aggression?
-doesn’t involve physical contact
-could be a nasty remark
-could be an act against an object to gain an advantage
-the intended harm is usually mental rather than physical to put them off their game
sporting examples of direct aggression?
dangerous tackle in football
high tackle in rugby
sporting examples of indirect aggression?
bowled at the batter- cricket
verbal abuse-football
what is an introvert and what sports are they usually associated with?
-shy and quiet
-reserved
-thoughtful
-enjoy being on their own
individual sports that require concentration, precision and low arousal such as running or archery
what is an extrovert and what sports are they usually associated with?
-active, talkative and outgoing
-sociable
-enthusiastic
-prone to boredom when on their own
associated with team sports which are fast paced, high arousal levels, low concentration and gross movements
such as- rugby, hockey, netball, football
what is intrinsic motivation?
the drive that comes from within you such as a feeling of pride, satisfaction, self-worth
what is extrinsic motivation?
the drive that comes from external rewards such as money/prizes, praise
what are tangible rewards?
things you can touch
what are intangible rewards?
are things you can’t touch
evaluate the 2 types of motivation?
-any type of motivation is useful
-intrinsic is thought to be more effective as it doesn’t rely out outside rewards
-if you are only extrinsically motivated you may not try your best when no rewards are available
-receiving extrinsic rewards may lead to feelings of self-satisfaction and pride that are associated with intrinsic motivation
-overuse of extrinsic motivation can reduce intrinsic motivation as you can become reliant on receiving awards
