How did they start forming the movement ?
Afrikaans was separate from Dutch. Severing ties with original heritage , wanted to become a distinct group. They believed they were the chosen people during the great trek. There was little Union between Afrikaners in different regions until after the war and the union

Why was the union created?
It was created as conciliation to the Afrikaners by the British from the ill effects of the Anglo boer war. It was an attempt to create a link with Afrikaans and British people by creating a self governed state that was still part of the British empire.

It was led by JBM hertzhog. The Afrikaners resented the English and wanted more say in the country. Therefore most Afrikaners in the union supported the party

RELIGION- the Dutch Reformed church, exclusively founded for Afrikaners, provided biblical support to Afrikaner claims.
BROEDEBOND- ensured the promotion of Afrikaners in key government posts.
How was the Great Trek instrumental to the formation of Afrikaner Nationalism?
Using events such as the Eeufees, the Great Trek was used to create a sense of unification among the Afrikaners.
