A

Afrikaans was separate from Dutch. Severing ties with original heritage , wanted to become a distinct group. They believed they were the chosen people during the great trek. There was little Union between Afrikaners in different regions until after the war and the union

Why was the union created?

A

It was created as conciliation to the Afrikaners by the British from the ill effects of the Anglo boer war. It was an attempt to create a link with Afrikaans and British people by creating a self governed state that was still part of the British empire.
