Rolfe on the Treasurer and White Lion
End of August, White Lion arrived at Point Comfort
Supposed to arrive together

On the White Lion
20 African slaves
True number of slaves is questioned
First African slaves sold as
Indentured servants in Virginia
Africans in the colony
Some transported to Jamestown
Some transported to Flowerdew Hundred plantation (Yeardley’s plantation until 1624 when sold to Peirsey)
Jope indicated he had captured
60 Africans and corn
Hence the disputed number
John Pory (secretary of the colony) recorded the White Lion
Was moored in Virginia for 1 month
Meant any other enslaved Africans were likely sold
Treasurer ship arrived a few days after the White Lion
Had 28-30 Africans onboard
Only 2-3 were sold in Virginia
