Aerobic Metabolism Flashcards
1
Q
Where does the aerobic metabolism take place?
A
Within the mitochondrial matrix and all tissues within the mitochondira
2
Q
The TCA cycle (krebs)?
A
Acetyl CoA + Oxaloacetate -> citrate Citrate -> Isocitrate Isocitrate -> alpha-ketoglutarate alpha-ketoglutarate -> succinyl CoA Succinyl CoA -> Succinate Succinate -> Fumarate Fumarate -> Malate Malate -> Oxaloacetate
3
Q
How to form acetyl CoA?
A
Pyruvate + CoA -> Acteyl CoA + CO2
4
Q
How the TCA cycle forms ATP?
A
The oxidation od NADH to NAD+ occurs by the transfer of 2H to the carriers of the cytochrome chain
H+ atoms are transferred to form H2O
results in the synthesis of 3 ATP or less
This all occurs in the electron transport chain
5
Q
What happens if an uncoupler of oxidation was present?
A
It would allow the operation of the electron transport chain but no ATP would be produced
