AE- nerves Flashcards
name origin, terminal and trace
medial dorsal cutaneous nerve
Sciatic (L4-S3) common fibular (peroneal), superficial peroneal (L5-S2), medial dorsal
cutaneous nerve, 1st dorsal digital proper, 1st common dorsal digital, 4th & 5th DDPN.
how to palpate the medial dorsal cutaneous nerve
dorsal surface of foot
plantar flex and invert foot. lateral to EHL tendon
origin, terminal, trace
saphenous nerve
Femoral nerve L2-L4, posterior division, saphenous nerve L3, L4, courses med thigh, med knee
& medial lower leg, anterior to med malleolus, terminates med 1st MPJ
how to palpate saphenous nerve
plantar flex foot and evert- medial to tibialis anterior tendon in front of medial malleolus
origin, terminates and trace
medial plantar nerve
Sciatic (L4-S3), tibial, medial plantar (L4-S1), 1-3 common plantar nerve, 1-7 PDPN
how to palpate medial plantar nerve
palpate the tibial nerve
posterior to the medial malleolus, adjacent to the posterior tibial artery
helps to evert foot
trace
deep fibula nerve
Sciatic (L4-S3) common fibular (peroneal), deep peroneal (L4-S1), travels anteriorly distally of leg, lateral branch and medial branch terminating at 2/3rd DDPN
origin terminates and trace
superficial fibula nerve
Sciatic (L4-S3) common fibular (peroneal), superficial peroneal (L5-S2), medial and intermediate dorsal cutaneous, 1-3 common digital proper, 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 DDPN
origin terminates and trace
sural nerve
Sciatic (L4-S3), tibial (medial sural cutaneous), common fibular nerve (lateral sural cutaneous), sural communicating, sural nerve, posterior to lateral malleolus, terminates into lateral calcaneal and lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve, 10th DDNP
trace
lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve
Sciatic (L4-S3), tibial (medial sural cutaneous), common fibular nerve (lateral sural cutaneous), sural communicating, sural nerve, posterior to lateral malleolus, terminates into lateral calcaneal and lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve, 10th DDNP
trace
intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerve
Sciatic (L4-S3) common fibular (peroneal), superficial peroneal (L5-S2), intermediate dorsal cutaneous nerve, 2-3 common dorsal digital nerve, 6-9
how to palpate sural nerve
behind lateral malleolus, rolls fingers toward achilles tendon
how to palpate common fibula nerve
behind fibula head (lateral) with leg flexed around 90 degrees, roll fingers over
