Adult CPR AED (2) Flashcards
AED
If you’re alone, CPR or AED?
AED, even though you aren’t moving any blood. AED more effective.

Why adult and pediatric pads and not just one set?
Pediatric pads deliver a smaller shock – not enough for adults
AED
Where do you put the pads?
Wherever it tells you to (likely upper right / lower left of chest)
AED
What if AED has three pads?
It really only has 2. One “pad” is a feedback sensor.

What does the AED do after pads connected?
Determines if a shock is needed (it’ll tell you).
AED
What do you do after it shocks the person?
Resume CPR: AED isn’t a replacement for CPR.
AED
When do you stop CPR to let the AED do its thing?
Only when the AED tells you to. It’s monitoring your CPR progress.

What do you do if there are two trained first aid responders?
One does CPR while the other does AED stuff. Don’t stop CPR!
