Adrenergic Antagonists Flashcards
Phenoxybenzamine
Antagonist (Irreversible Alpha-receptor) Causes decreased vasoconstriction, decreased blood pressure. Used to treat Pheo
Phentolamine
Antagonist (Reversible Alpha-receptor) Used to diagnose pheo. Pts with pheo will demonstrate larger than expected decrease in BP when given phentolamine
Prazosin
Antagonist (Selective Alpha-1) Causes peripheral vascular smooth muscle relaxation, leading to Drop in BP. Decrease prostatic and bladder neck contraction. Used for Hypertension and BPH
Terazosin
Tamulosin
Similar to prazosin
Similar to prazosin
Propranolol
Antagonist (Beta 1 and Beta 2) B1 block causes decreased HR and Contractility, thus decreased CO. Reflex peripheral vasoconstriction, end eventual decreased BP. Bronchocontstriction. Used for CV disroders (Hypertension, CAD), tachcardia associated with hyperthyroidism, chronic migraines
Timolol
Opthalmic solution to decreasedaqueous humore secretion. For wide angle glaucoma.
Metoprolol
Antagonist (selective Beta-1) Heart rate and contractility are decreased, leading to decreased CO. Used to treat Hypertension and CAD especially with patients with diabetes. Used to treat wide angle glaucoma
Carvedilol
Labetalol
Antagonists (Alpha 1 and Beta) Treat CHF and refractory hypertension
Antagonists (Alpha 1 and Beta) Treat CHF and refractory hypertension
