Adrenergic Agonists Flashcards
Ephedrine
Agnoist (Alpha 1, Beta 1, Beta 2) Increase systolic and diastolic BP, increase CO, induce Bronchodilation, stimulate CNS, Nasal decongestant
Amphetamine
Agonist (Alpha 1, Beta 1, Beta 2) Leads to arousal state, narcolepsy, ADD, ADHD
Phenylephrine
Agonist (Alpha 1) Systemic vasocontriction and pupil dilation. Used for severe hypertension and shock, nasal congestion, produce mydriasis for retinal examination
Clonidine /Brimonidine
Agnoist (Alpha 2) Reduces release of NE and other NTs. Casues decreased central adrenergic activity with decreased vasoconstriction and decreased CO and HR. For treatment of Hypertension.
Albuterol
Agonist (Beta 2) Stimulates bronchodilation. Can lead to transcelluar shifts of K+ into cell. Treats asthma, and hyperkalemia (when given in high doses)
Salmeterol
Agonist (Beta 2) Analog of albuterol. Long acting, used to prevent asthmatic attacks.
Ritodrine
Agnoist (Beta 2) Reduce uterine contactions during preterm labor. Treat bronchospasm during status asthmaticus.
