What are the 3 major elements of sustainment?
Logistics, personnel services and health services
What is the sustainment war fighting function?
It is related tasks and systems that provide support and services to ensure freedom of action, extend operational reach and prolong endurance.
What is logistics?
Planning and executing of movement and support of forces
What are some examples of logistics?
Transportation, supply, field services, distribution, operational contract support and general engineering support
What are personnel services?
Sustainment functions that fund the force, maintain soldier and family readiness, promote moral and ethical values of the nation and enable the fighting qualities of the army
What do personnel services consist of?
Human Resources, financial management operations, legal , religious, and band support
What is health service support?
All support and services performed provided by the army medical department to promote, improve, or restore the mental and physical wellbeing of of personnel in the army
What does health services consist of?
Casualty care, medical evacuation, and medical logistics
What are the principles of sustainability?
Integration, anticipation, responsiveness, simplicity, economy, survivability and continuity.
What is integration?
Combining all the elements of sustainment to operations assuring unity of command and effort
What is anticipation?
The ability to foresee operational requirements and initiate actions without waiting for an operations order of frag order
What is responsiveness?
The ability to react to changing requirements and respond to meet the needs to maintain support
What is simplicity?
Process and procedures to minimize the complexity of sustainment
What is economy?
Providing sustainment resources in an efficient manner to enable a CDR to employ all assets to achieve the greatest effect possible
What is survivability?
Protecting personnel, weapons, and supplies while deceiving the enemy
What is continuity?
The uninterrupted provision of sustainment across all levels of war
What are the 5 principles that are unique to personal services?
Syronizatoion, timeliness, stewardship, accuracy, and consistency
What is synchronization?
Ensuring personnel services are effectively aligned with military actions in time, space, and purpose to produce maximum readiness and operation capabilities.
What is timeliness?
Decision makers have an access to relevant personnel services information and analysis that support current and future operations
What is stewardship?
Careful and responsible management of resources entrusted to the government in order to execute responsible governance
What is accuracy?
Accuracy of information impacts the decisions made by CDRs and impacts soldiers and their families
What is consistency?
Providing uniform and compatible guidance and support to forces across all levels of operations
How is the theater army responsible for sustainment?
They are responsible for preparation and administration support for the army forces assigned or attached to the combatant CDR
What does the the theater army HQ perform?
Functions that include reception, staging, onward movement, and integration, logistics over the shore operations and security coordination
What is the role of theater sustainment command?
TSC serves as the senior army sustainment HQ for the theater army
What does the TSC provide?
Mission command of units assigned attached or indeed its OPCON capabilities
What is the expeditionary sustainment commands?
Force pooled assets and are under the TSC
What does ESC do?
Plans, prepares, executes , and assesses sustainment theater opening and reception and onward movement operations for army forces theater
What is the army’s distribution system?
A complex of facilities, installations, methods and procedures designed to receive, store, distribute, and control the flow of military resources to units.
