What is parenteral administration?
Administered by any route other than via the gastro - intestinal tract.
What are the parenteral routes?
Topical Inhaled Epidural Nasal Mucosa IV Subcutaneous Intramuscular Intradermal Intra - arterial Intrathecal
What does inter arterial mean?
Verapamil to brain in vasospasm
What does intrathecal mean?
Through csf barrier
What is epidural?
Pregnancy injection
What is topical?
May be directly delivered to external site.
What are intravenous injections?
Injections into the veins = known as capacitance vessels.
How are vessels defined?
Path which carries blood from capillary bed back to the heart.
What delivery system is IV injections classed under?
Systemic Delivery.
= Issues with absorption are eliminated.
Drugs may be given at a rapid rate to achieve peak effect.
Name the 4 layer of the skin.

What is the degree of intramuscular injections?
90 degrees
What is the degree of subcutaneous injections?
45 degrees
What is the degree of intravenous injections?
25 degrees
What is the degree of intradermal injections?
10 - 15 degrees
Describe and explain the dermis.
Contains layers of connective tissue with lots of receptors for sensitisation.
Acts as a shock absorber and thus, provides strength to the skin.
