Adenomyosis Flashcards
What is adenomyosis?
Invasion of the endometrium into the uterine myometrium resulting in enlarged uterine volume with adenomyotic foci that may be associated with painful and heavy periods
Treatment of adenomyosis?
TXA +/- NSAID, LNG-IUS, COCP, cyclical use of POP
Symptoms of adenomyosis?
Bleeding, dysmenorrhea, irregular bleeding, can be asymptomatic
Prevalence of adenomyosis?
20-30% of menstruating women
Most common finding on ultrasonography?
Diffuse myometrial heterogeneity
Dose of TXA
1-1.5g 3-4 times daily for the first 3-5 days of menstruation - considered first line
Potential negative pregnancy outcomes with adenomyosis?
PROM, SGA, miscarriage, pre-eclampsia and placental malposition
