Adaptions And Variations Flashcards
1
Q
How do adaptions develop?
A
Through variation ~ differences in people which may be structural, behavioural or physiological.
Genetic variation is due to genetic differences in a population.
2
Q
What does genetic variation exist because off?
A
A) random mutations that can be inherited
B) recombination of alleles in sexual reproduction.
3
Q
Mutations
A
- Mutations are not always bad
- environmental factors can make mutations occur or they can occur randomly during DNA replication.
-mutations often provide new alleles in species. - gamete mutations form inherited mutations that affect future generations.
- they can have no affect, be beneficial or be harmful depending on the organisms condition/environment.
4
Q
Variation and adaptions → the connection
A
- Environmental conditions determine if a variation has a negative, positive or no impact on an individuals ability to survive and reproduce.
- helpful variations will be more likely to survive and reproduce and pass on their DNA to future generations u based on their environmental factors.
5
Q
Variation and adaptions → the connection (part2)
A
- The variation becomes more common in upcoming generations considering it a beneficial trait, it will become an adaption of the population.
- individuals without the adaption often do not survive, they wont be able to reproduce so their genes do not remain in the population.
6
Q
Selective advantage
A
~ when a genetic mutation leads to variation that is helpful and gives an individual a genetic advantage for survival and reproduction.
