Clinical Manifestations
A
Older than 40 years old
Similar in presentation to ARDS
Abrupt onset in a previously healthy individual
Prodromal illness usually 7-14 days before presentation

A
Diffuse, bilateral air space opacification

A
Bilateral, patchy symmetric areas of ground glass attenuation

Diagnosis of AIP
A
Requires the presence of a clinical syndrome of idiopathic ARDS and pathologic confirmation of organizing diffuse alveolar damage

Mortality rate
A
High >60%
Most patients die within 6months of presentation
