ISO has acknowledged the training values of some of the daily activities that we do and allows some company training time to be logged for said activities.
Daily activities that should be logged as company training in target solutions, should be logged as follows:
– Area familiarization, NFPA 1500 – .5 hours for all personnel with the exception of the driver.
– Daily vehicle maintenance/inspection NFPA 1002, 4.2” – .5 hours for all personnel assisting with daily vehicle check out.
– Weekly/monthly preventative maintenance, NFPA 1002, 4.2”– One hour for all personnel assisting with the weekly and monthly preventative maintenance on the apparatus, small engines, ladders, SCBA, and tools.
– Firefighter fitness, NFPA 1500 – .33 hours for all personnel participating in the daily fitness activities.
Drivers of the engines and rescue trucks may be logged daily as follows:
– ISO: driver/operator training, NFPA 1002
– Drive on roadway, NFPA 1002, 4.3
– Log one hour for each driver as long as the vehicle has been responding to calls. Or, in the district for other duties and responsibilities such as hydrant maintenance, inspections, etc.…
Officers should log for themselves the following additional training hours:
– ISO: officer training NFPA 1021; fire officer one and two training, NFPA 1021
– Lieutenants should log .25 hours every day for 1021: plan a workday.
– Battalion chiefs should log .5 hours every day for 1021: plan a work day
Both lieutenants and battalion chiefs should be alert to other areas that may be logged under officer training in target solutions such as:
– Command a structure fire
– Conduct a pre-fire plan
– Handle a personnel problem
