Active transport Flashcards
Define Active Transport:
Where substances go against the concentration gradient across a partially permeable membrane from a low concentration to a high concentration.
What does Active Transport allow cells to do?
Move substances, absorb ions from dilute solutions and enables sugars to go form one place to another.
Is energy needed in Active transport?
Energy is needed for active transport, this energy is produced from mitochondria.
Why are there lots of Mitochondria in cells that do Active Transport?
Because the cells carry substances against the concentration gradient and this needs a lot of energy.
What do Root hair cells do with Active Transport?
Take in mineral ions from soil into the cell by Active Transport.
How are Root Hair cells adapted for Active Transport?
they have Microscopic hairs and large surface area for water to get in. Has lots of Mitochondria for Active Transport
Why is Active Transport use in the Gut?
Where there is a low concentration of nutrients in the gut but a high concentration of nutrients in the blood. For glucose to be transported for cellular respiration.
