What is the difference between ‘to take’ (tori) and ‘takes’ (kakari).

A

1) Tori - the stem form verb ‘to take’ refers to the action of taking an object.

2) Kakari - the stem form verb ‘takes’ refers to the amount of something taken by an action. Often paired with the question phrase ‘about how much’ (dono kurai).

For example, to take (tori) a photo. Compared to traveling from A to B takes (kakari) 30 minutes.
