List the steps of the pretest phase for the known STIM
- pick a number between 3 & 8, but not those numbers, and then tell me. This number is the “key.”
- Ask the examinee to write the number near the center of a paper provided.
- Examiner writes sequential numbers before and after the key
What are the rules for creating the key visual aid for the Known STIM Test?
- Must be a minimum of 6 numbers.
- Key must never be listed as the middle number.
- Must be at least two padding numbers on either side of the key.
- The visual aid must be visible to the examinee during the data collection phase.
What are the review procedures prior to beginning the test?
- Did you write the number 1?
- Did you write the number 2?
- Etc.
- Examinee is told to answer ‘No’ to all the questions concerning the number they chose and wrote on the paper.
- Remind the examinee he will be lying when he answers ‘No’ to the Key question.

- Give sitting and movement instructions.
- Give answering instructions.

He’s instructed to answer “no” to all questions during the 1st portion. After the first set of questions, he is instructed to answer truthfully to all questions. After that, the test is complete.
