Acids, Alkalis And Salts Flashcards
What are alkalis?
Bases which dissolve in water.
What are bases?
Chemicals that neutralise acids.
How can you measure acidity? Give an example
Using indicators which change colour when we had them to acids and alkalis.
Universal indicator is a very special indicator made from a number of dyes which turns different colours that different values of pH.
What is 0 to 6 on the PH scale?
Acid.
What is 7 on the PH scale?
Neutral (water)
What is 8 to 15 on the pH scale?
Alkali.
What does the reaction between an acid and a metal produce?
Salt and hydrogen.
What does the reaction between an acid and a base produce?
Salt and water.
What does the reaction between an acid and an alkali produce?
A salt and water.
What is a precipitation reaction?
When two solutions react to make an insoluble salt.
