What is the engineer’s role in regards to accountability?
Accountability officer who tracks crews and crewmembers who take hand lines from his/her apparatus.
Collects passports from crews prior to entering the hot zone.
Places passport on discharge gate when his line is charged.
Places hose line ID tags on each hose line.
What accountability equipment does each apparatus have?
Passport with a pouch (for each shift).
Small company ID tag.
Helmet ID stickers.
Hose ID tag.
What is a passport?
Bright yellow tag.
3 by 4 inches
Marked with company ID and shift.
Has each crew members name tags attached with Velcro.
Passport, hose line ID tag, and pouch always kept together.
When entering a hot zone, what happens to the name tags of the crew members NOT entering the hot zone?
They are removed from passport to reflect ONLY the members entering the hot zone.
When is the passport system implemented?
At any incident that requires the use of an SCBA.
What should the engineer do with the passports given to him by company officers as they pull hand lines off of his/her engine?
Place passport on pump panel next to discharge gate of the line that crew deployed.
Remove hose line ID tag and secure it to the line that crew deployed.
Who becomes the accountability officer of crews who deploy hand lines off of an engine?
The engineer of engine the line was deployed from.
What do ladder crews do with their passport?
Leave on the dash of the ladder when going to the roof.
Deliver to accountability location when going interior.
What is included in the back up kit and where is it kept?
Located in blue nylon back in engineer’s compartment on truck.
Includes: 3 blank hose line ID tags One passport pouch One blank passport One blank passport with Velcro One grease pencil
What happens to the passports when battalion chiefs are assigned to manage sectors?
Their FIT assumes safety sector responsibilities including accountability.
They would collect passports from initial engine accountability locations.
After a BC and their FIT collect passports for accountability, what should that engineer do?
Remove the small company ID tag from the back of the pouch and replace the passport on the discharge gate.
When can the passport system be terminated?
Following the report of “fire under control” and a PAR for all crews is obtained. IC will then decide whether to continue or terminate the use of passport system.
What are the passport rules?
Only reflect those in the hot zone.
Never enter the hot zone.
Delivered to accountability location prior to entering hot zone.
Will be maintained at point of entry.
Will be retrieved by crews upon exiting hot zone.
Accountability location is the engine where the crew deployed the hand line.
