Q
  1. PG
  • The largest salivary glands, located near the base of the ears.
  • Secretes a serous (watery) saliva that helps moisten food.
  • Drains through the parotid duct into the oral cavity near the upper premolars.

Q
  1. MG
  • Found below and behind the lower jaw (mandible).
  • Produces a mixed secretion (both serous and mucous) that lubricates food for easier swallowing.
  • Drains through the mandibular duct, opening under the tongue.

Q
  1. SG
  • The smallest salivary glands,
  • located under the tongue (ventral to the mandible).
  • Produces mostly mucous saliva, which helps coat food and lubricate the oral cavity.

Has 2 parts:

> > Monostomatic sublingual gland
- One duct that drains near the mandibular duct.

> > Polystomatic sublingual glands
– Multiple small ducts opening along the tongue.

Q
  1. ZG
  • Located near the eye, within the orbit (beneath the zygomatic arch).
  • Unique to carnivores like dogs.
  • Produces mucous saliva, which helps in lubrication and digestion.
  • Drains through small ducts into the upper oral cavity.
