Liver
- largest visceral organ in the body
- located in right upper quadrant of abdomen
- function: metabolic process detoxification of drugs and poisons, storage of lipids, and carbs, hematological regulation, secretion of bile for digestion
Coronary ligament
Attaches liver to diaphragm
Falciforme ligament
Attaches liver to anterior abdominal wall, dividing into right and left halves
Hepatic ducts
Carry bile to common hepatic duct
Common hepatic duct
Formed by right and left hepatic ducts, carries bile to duodenum via common bile duct
Gallbladder
Small bag like structure in inferior surface of liver that collects and concentrates bile
Cystic duct
Connect gallbladder to common bile duct
Pancreas
- small gland located behind stomach extending from spleen to duodenum
- produces digestive enzymes carried by pancreatic duct to duodenum
- pancreatic duct - hepatoduodenal ampulla - duodenum
Upper right quadrant of abdomen
Liver, gallbladder, hepatic flexure of colon
Upper left quadrant of abdomen
Stomach, pancreas, spleen, splenic flexure of colon
Lower right quadrant of abdomen
Cecum, appendix
