Inhibits intestinal alpha-glucosidase enzymes and delays digestion/absorption of starch and sucrose.

When is it used?
A
Reserved for use - when other oral hypoglycaemics cannot be taken.

Flatulence
- Improves with time
- Antacids help
Diarrhoea
- Withdraw or reduce dose

Patient counselling
A
Chew with first mouthful or food or swallow whole with a small amount of liquid right before food.
Carry glucose to counteract hypoglycaemia caused by insulin or Sulphonylurea
