No earrings or studs in uniform.
Can BPD personnel sleep on duty?
No, may NEVER sleep on duty.
What is the policy on alcohol and tobacco use?
- Never use alcohol on duty
- Never use tobacco anytime
What must be true about the use of alcohol off duty?
Must not be obnoxious, offensive, or discrediting.
What are the rules regarding storing alcohol?
Can NOT store alcohol at any police property or vehicle.
What is the policy regarding drug use?
- Can NOT use drugs
- Prescriptions must be used correctly
- Must notify in writing before the next tour of duty
What is required when on duty regarding calls for service?
Must respond to any call of service or help.
Can BPD personnel engage in personal business while on duty?
No, can NOT engage in personal business while on duty.
What must you state while on duty and how will you act?
- Give name
- Give rank
- Give badge number
- Act in a civil manner
- Carry ID at all times
What are the rules regarding charitable activities?
Can give to charity but not in uniform and must not solicit anything.
What is the policy on accepting gifts?
NO GIFTS! Must report any bribe attempts to a supervisor.
What is the expectation for truthfulness in reports?
- Submit all reports on time
- Reports must be truthful and complete
- Cannot knowingly enter false info
- Violation may lead to termination
What is not allowed regarding evidence?
Don’t withhold, manufacture, or alter evidence.
What is prohibited regarding recommendations?
Can’t recommend any services or commercial products.
What political activities are BPD personnel allowed to do?
Can’t do political activity in the city, but can vote.
What is required for a second job?
Need written approval if it conflicts with duties.
What must be done in case of a complaint against an officer?
Must notify commanding officer in writing and verbally within 24 hours.
What is the procedure in situations involving family emergencies?
Deal with the emergency then step aside.
What must be done during off-duty BPD situations?
Notify Operations and request a Superior Officer.
What is the policy regarding associations with criminals?
DO NOT ASSOCIATE WITH CRIMINALS (UNLESS FAMILY)
