What are strengths of the police
A
- specialist policing- police specialise in different areas like fraud, tax evasion, focus resources accordingly
- 9offences of public concern- police make progress in prioritising offences of public concern, e.g. domestic abuse, 2/3 of DA practitoners felt polices approach improved
- improved recording procedure- police have made effort to improve crime recording since in 2014 they didn’t meet the standards required by office of national stats

A
- arrest rate falling for DA
- police not using bail conditions to protect victims
- staff shortages causing delays responding to incidents
- body worn video cameras not always worn to gather evidence

- 80% of police accused of DA kept their jobs
- Wayne Couzens, police officer, found guilty of rape and murder of Sarah Everard and sentenced to life order
- David Carrick arrested for rape of multiple women over 21 year period

A
according to police’s own statistics, crime is rising, number of offences recorded by police rose from 4.5m to 5.8m in 4 years.
e.g. knife and gun crime
rose from 24,000 to 35,800
