What are the 2 crime control models
- crime control model
- due process model
What is the goal of crime control model
to suppress crime
What does the crime control model prioritise
- catching and punishing offenders
- deterring and preventing further crime
What does the crime control model presume
that all suspects are guilty
What are a few features of crime control model
- trusts police
- police shouldn’t have legal technicalities that make it hard to investigate crime e.g. search warrants
- favours assembly line justice system- speedy prosecute and punish
What does the crime control model argue about police mistakes
if a few innocent people are convicted by mistake, it is price worth paying for convicting large number of guilty people

victims and society
What is the goal of the due process model
to protect the accused from oppression by the state and its agents
What does the due process model presume
that all suspects are innocent, innocent until proven guilty
What are a few features of the due process model
- has less faith in the police
- shouldnt be an assembly line, the suspects rights should be safeguarded
What does the due process model argue about police mistakes
guilty sometimes go free on a ‘technicality’, this is a lesser evil than convicting an innocent person
