What is the Polices’ philosophy?
integrity + honesty, authority, respect, courtesy, equality and diversity- fairness and impartiality
What are the polices aims and objectives?
Keep peace and maintain order, protect life and property, prevent, detect and investigate crime, bring offenders to justice

What is the polices working practices?
Have team of officers responsible for general beat duties, respond to emergency and non-emergency calls from public
Some move onto more specialist roles after probationary period e.g. neighbourhood officers + CIDs- more serious crimes
What are the ranks for the police?
Constable, sergeant, inspector, superintendent, chief constable
What are examples of ‘specialist operations’ in the police?
anti-terrorism, firearms, drugs, dog handlers, mounted police, river police
What are Police Community Support Officers?
Provide visible and reassuring presence on streets- tackle anti-social behaviour
What can PCSO’s issue?
fixed-penalty notices for littering, can ask police officer to arrest someone
What are Police and Crime Commissioners? (PCCs)
The voice of the people, hold the police to account with an aim to reduce crime and deliver efficient police service within their force area
