Controls over our behaviour that comes from within ourselves- from our personalities and values

To conform to the rules of society and the groups we belong to

Traditions and culture, internalisation of social rules and morality, rational ideology
Traditions and culture
Culture we belong to becomes part of us through socialisation
What do we come to accept (TaC)?
Its values, norms and traditions as part of our identity
What do conforming to traditions do?
Affirm one’s identity and being accepted as a member of a particular community
Internalisation of social rules and morality
Internalise rules in society through a process of socialisation- either from parents or wider social groups + institutions such as religion, school and peer grouo
What do society’s rules and moral code become? (IoSRaM) what does this lead to?
OWN personal rules and moral code
We come to conform willingly to social norms
Rational ideology
We internalise social rules and use them to tell us what is right or wrong
What does your conscience do? (RI)
With feelings of guilty, anxiety, and worry guides you to keep within the law
