Imprisonment

A
  • Removing someone from society and confining them to a building or cell to pushish them and protect the public
  • aims:
  • Retribution- pushing them for there rong
  • Public protection- protecting the public from them
  • Decerance- others wouldn’t commit crime cos they dont what to be in prison.
  • Rehabilitation- programs and jobs in prison to help rehabilitate

Community

A
  • A punishment where the person gives back to sociality, survs the community and betters themselves
  • eg litter picking or treatment programs
  • aims:
  • Rehabilitation- helps people to better themselves( treatment programs)
  • Reparation- repers the wrong done to the community
  • retribution- there being punished but not as savaly as imprisonment.

A
  • Monetary fines to pay back the crown or the victim.
  • eg compensation, speeding fine or paying legal costs
  • Deterrence- people dont what to pay so they don’t commit crime again
  • Retribution-there being punished but not as severely as imprisonment.

  • There’s conditional and non coditional. conditional you cant commit crime cos imprisonment will occur
  • Deterrence of reoffending- people won’t commit more crime if they know they’ll go to prison.

Retribution
pro- pay back is achieved when the sentence matches the crime
con- when the prison sentence is short or suspended the person gets very little retribution
Deterrence
pro- harsh sentences deter others cos fear of prison
con- reoffending rates are high so it doesn’t deter reoffending
Rehabilitation
pro- lots of resources for rehabilitation in prison like education and training
con- people have to want to rehabilitate for it to work
Public protection
pro- removes dangerous people from society
con- only lasts wells there in prison
