What organisations are part of the criminal justice system
police,ministry of justice, HM courts, CPS, HM prison service, National probation service, law officers and the home office
Police
Enforce the law, investigate crime, collect evidence and arrest or detain suspects.
What are the 3 types of courts and what do they do
●Magistrates courts- handles less serious crimes like petty theft
●Youth courts- handles all non serious crime committed by people age 10-17
●The crown courts- deals with all serious crime like murder and rape
Ministry of justice
The Ministry of Justice is a government department, at the heart of the justice system. They work to protect and advance the principles of justice.
CPS
The Crown Prosecution Service
-advise the police on charging suspects
-checks the evidence collected by the police and sees if the police have enough evidence to go to court
the CPS also prepares and presents the prosecution case in court.
HM Prison service
carries out sentences and aims to rehabilitate prisoners though education and employment
National probation service
deals with thoughts who has suspended sentences after a prison sentence
Law office
the governments chef legal adviser and looks over cps and the fraud office. has the over all responsibility for the governments legal department
Home office
The Home Office is the government department for immigration and passports, drugs policy, crime, fire, counter-terrorism and police.
