AC1.3 - Models Of Criminal Justice Flashcards

Q
Outline the Crime Control Model
A
Quick and efficient disposal of criminal cases (CONVEYOR BELT APPROACH)
[Guilty until proven innocent]
- It starts with the presumption of guilt
- The police should be free of any legal technicalities and identify those who are “probably guilty”
- speedy prosecution to punish them
- few innocents will be punished but it’s the price worth paying
Colin Stagg shows the Crime control model as he was arrested upon a presumption of guilt
Right Realism supports this approach

Outline the Due Process Model
A
Innocent until proven guilty
- time must be taken to ensure fair trial
- avoid miscarriage of justice
- only guilty people should be punished
- on the side of the individual
The introduction of the police and CPS support the idea of Due Process
Left Realism supports this approach
